Spatial Encounters With/Through presents….Nose, with Dr. Kate McLean-MacKenzie Lecturer, Artist, Designer, Researcher

All talks are on Tuesdays at 6pm in the University of Greenwich Stockwell Street Building, 11_2017 (second floor).

Kate McLean-MacKenzie specialises in interpreting & communicating landscapes of smell, known as smellscapes, via ‘smell maps’. Through public engagement, ‘smellwalks’, data analysis, and generating data visualisations, Kate’s work in architecture and design reflects on integrating smell into historical, heritage and community perceptions of place and space.

A short presentation exploring how the study of smellscapes through smellwalking and smellscape mapping might lead to a better understanding of the distance, direction and location of smell sources. This will be followed by a smellwalk and ideas about how to approach mapping the data from a creative perspective.
