Section 28, a piece of homophobic legislation in force in England and Wales between 1988 and 2003, sought to silence the voices of LGBTQ+ people. Drawing upon oral histories, this exhibition will explore the history and legacies Section 28 from the perspectives of those most affected by this pernicious piece of legislation. At a time when hard won LGBTQ+ rights continue to be under attack across the globe, understanding the history and afterlives of Section 28 has never been more important – or more urgent.
Alongside this exhibition will be a display of artworks produced in ‘Section 28 and its afterlives’ collage workshops over the last few years: a collective explosion of queer anger, joy and resilience.
A special performace will take place the evening of February 25th, details to follow.
