The University of Greenwich Galleries is pleased to announce Drawing Thinking, a major interdisciplinary exhibition celebrating the role of drawing as a dynamic tool for conceptualisation, experimentation, and discovery. Presented at The Stephen Lawrence Gallery from 11 June to 31 July 2026, the exhibition coincides with the annual student degree shows and brings together drawing practices from academics across the School of Design and Creative Industries.
Drawing Thinking highlights how image‑making operates far beyond its traditional association with preparatory work. Instead, the exhibition positions drawing as a core methodology — a way of thinking, testing ideas, visualising processes, and generating new knowledge. Through contributions from Animation, Architecture, Film and Television, Graphic Design, Landscape Architecture, Media and Communications, and Visual Arts, the exhibition reveals the breadth of drawing as both a discipline‑specific and cross‑disciplinary practice.
Featuring resolved artworks, process-led material, sketchbooks, and research documentation, the exhibition offers insight into how drawing supports spatial reasoning, conceptual development, storyboarding, observation, and material exploration. Visitors will encounter a wide range of approaches that demonstrate drawing’s capacity to spark inquiry, foster experimentation, and open up technical dialogue across creative fields.
The exhibition will be accompanied by workshops, public engagement activities, and a small publication. A symposium on Thursday 25th June will further extend the conversation, creating a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and critical reflection on contemporary drawing practices.
