Thinking in Painting
This quote from the question “What is thinking in painting?” by Hubert Damish is from his brilliant 1984 essay Fenêtre jaune cadmium*. In 2010, this question was the starting point for the enquiry that was addressed by
Réseau Peinture**, which covered the relationship between painting and language. It also lead to critical research around communication in painting in relation to drawing and architecture, which was explored in the collaborative project Paper-Architecture. Gourvil developed this project with the New York-based painter Marjorie Welish between 2000-2013.
