The Feminism, Policy and Otherness Creative Conversation will feature Nicole Dewandre, from the European Commission in conversation with Felicity Colman, Professor of Film and Media Arts at the Manchester School of Art. The event will be chaired by Ghislaine Boddington, Creative Director of Body>Data>Space and Reader at the University of Greenwich.
As a civil servant in the European Commission, since 1983, Nicole Dewandre has a clear understanding of the inner workings of policy creation. She is currently working on the Digital Agenda for Europe, as part of the Horizon2020 and has a strong interest in ethical practice in ICT. In addition to this she is a published academic, her writing considers how feminist philosophy, particularly the work of Hannah Arendt can provide new ways of rethinking the human condition.
This conversation will bring Nicole’s unique inside perspective of policy-making and blend it with Prof. Felicity Colman’s ongoing research into Digital Feminicity. This includes the way that creative philosophy can be used to construct an ethical approach to inform future policy-making. As a Professor of Film and Media Arts, Felicity has a vast range of research interests, including ethics and philosophies that inform creative speculation, codified informatics, patriarchal algorithms, innovation, forms of play, communication, and models of change.
Ghislaine Boddington will guide this conversation, bringing her own experience of running an East London creative unit designing interactive connections between performance, architecture, virtual worlds and new media and her background curating the Woman Shift Digital community.
This promises to be an exciting meeting of minds as we delve into the relationship between feminist philosophy and policy-making!
